Hey friend,

This week I was trail running.

The air was cool.

The forest was quiet.

My dogs were running with me.

And as I ran, I found myself thinking about something I see happening to so many women.

Not weight gain.

Not menopause.

Not aging.

Their world is getting smaller.

A few years ago, after gaining nearly 30 pounds, I could feel it happening to me too.

I wasn’t mountain biking.

I wasn’t running trails.

I wasn’t signing up for adventures.

I was becoming someone who sat on the sidelines and watched.

And that’s a dangerous place to be.

Not because of how it looks.

Because of where it leads.

The women I coach rarely come to me because they want visible abs.

They come because they’re worried.

Worried they won’t be able to keep up with their grandchildren.

Worried they’ll stop travelling.

Worried they’ll lose their independence.

Worried they’re slowly becoming less capable.

The scale gets their attention.

But it’s the shrinking of their life that scares them.

It happened to me but I decided decline and a shrinking world would not be my destiny.

Here is your 5 Minute Friday.

Here is your 5 Minute Friday:

1. The real danger isn’t becoming older.

t’s becoming inactive.

Most people think aging is what steals their freedom.

It’s not.

Inactivity does.

It happens gradually.

You stop taking the stairs.

You stop hiking.

You stop lifting things.

You stop trying new activities.

Then one day you realize you’re no longer living the life you imagined.

Here’s the good news:

The reverse is also true.

Movement creates momentum.

One walk becomes a habit.

A habit becomes confidence.

Confidence becomes capability.

Capability creates freedom.

The hardest part is starting.

Not because it’s physically difficult.

Because mentally, we think we need to do more than we actually do.

Most women don’t need a perfect program.

They need a first step.

This week I filmed a video while trail running through the woods about exactly this.

Inside I share:

• How I got started after gaining 30 pounds

• Why walking is often the smartest place to begin

• The mindset shift that helped me stop feeling stuck

• How to build momentum without overwhelming yourself

If you’ve been waiting for motivation to show up first, this video is for you.

Something BIG I Learned This Week

I came across a study from researchers at the University of Birmingham that really caught my attention.

They took healthy older adults with an average age of 72 and asked them to reduce their daily step count to about 1,500 steps per day for just two weeks.

What happened?

In only 14 days, they lost measurable muscle mass in their legs, became less insulin sensitive, and showed changes associated with poorer metabolic health.

Think about that.

Two weeks.

That’s shorter than most vacations.

Shorter than recovering from many illnesses.

Shorter than the amount of time many people spend saying, “I’ll start again on Monday.”

The study was published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and highlights something important:

The body adapts very quickly to inactivity.

As we age, muscle isn’t just about looking toned.

Muscle acts like a metabolic engine.

It helps regulate blood sugar, supports bone health, improves balance, protects against falls, and allows us to stay active and independent.

When we stop moving, the body starts getting rid of things it doesn’t think it needs.

The good news?

The opposite is also true.

When we start moving again, the body responds.

Strength training builds muscle.

Walking improves insulin sensitivity.

Regular movement improves cardiovascular fitness and mobility.

Your body is constantly adapting to the signals you send it.

That’s why I’m such a believer in simply getting started.

Not because one walk changes everything.

But because every walk tells your body:

“Keep this muscle.”

“Keep this strength.”

“Keep this capability.”

The women who age well aren’t necessarily the women with the best genetics.

They’re the women who never stop moving.

❤️ My Favourite Thing this Week

This week, my favourite thing isn’t a supplement, gadget, or piece of fitness equipment.

It’s trails.

There’s something about getting out into the woods that changes how movement feels.

A walk becomes an adventure.

A workout becomes an experience.

And suddenly you’re not exercising because you have to.

You’re moving because you want to.

When I was trail running this week, I started thinking about all the years I’ve spent outdoors.

Mountain biking.

Hiking.

Trail running.

Camping.

Skiing.

The common thread isn’t fitness.

It’s freedom.

Being fit allows me to say yes to experiences that make life richer.

And that’s why I think getting outside is one of the most underrated health tools available.

Research shows that spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve mood, lower blood pressure, and increase overall well-being.

But honestly?

You don’t need a study to tell you that.

You can feel it.

If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, try this:

Leave your phone in your pocket.

Find a trail, a park, a beach, or a quiet road.

Walk for 20 minutes.

No pace target.

No calorie goal.

No fitness tracker.

Just move.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your body and your mind is simply spend a little time outside.

One Quote to Finish Your Week Strong

Your future self is watching

Whenever I don’t feel like working out, that’s what I remind myself.

The woman I want to be at 70 is watching.

The woman I want to be at 80 is watching.

Will she be strong?

Capable?

Independent?

Still hiking, biking, travelling, and saying yes to adventure?

The answer depends on the choices I make today.

And the same is true for all of us.

Your future self is watching.

Make her proud.
